A lovely magnolia tree grows outside my bedroom window and in the spring produces these beautiful blossoms and emits a tantalizing fragrance. These blooms were photographed from that tree in the springtime.
Magnolia is an ancient genus. Appearing before bees did, the flowers are theorized to have evolved to encourage pollination by beetles. To avoid damage from pollinating beetles, the carpels of Magnolia flowers are extremely tough. Fossilised specimens of have been found dating to 20 million years ago, and of plants identifiably belonging to the Magnoliaceae date to 95 million years ago. Another aspect of Magnolia considered to represent an ancestral state is that the flower bud is enclosed in a bract rather than in sepals; the perianth parts are undifferentiated and called tepals rather than distinct sepals and petals.
A picture is a poem without words....Horace. My photos and digital paintings are picture words intended to invoke delight, thought, memories or wonder in the minds of the viewer. Some are meant to inform or instruct, but all are offered for the enjoyment of those whose eyes will explore them. I get excited about all things nature, wildlife, and nostalgia, however my travel and visits to interesting places also show up in my work. Please browse my galleries which are open to the public and anyone interested in design or decorating residential, commercial or public buildings. Volume discounts are available.
